Wild at Heart Homebased Education Philosophy

Wild at Heart Homebased Education values the need for Tamariki to be provided with plenty of opportunity to explore who they are, where they are, and what their place is in the world through empowerment, holistic development, families and communities and relationships.

Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning and how to learn.”

Loris Malaguzzi (Reggio Emellia founder.)

Empowerment
Whakamana

All tamariki can make a remarkable difference, becoming critical thinkers, making a positive impact on those around them. Our small numbers provide intimate, close-knit environments where adults can scaffold positive interactions, clear communication, and encourage each child to be their unique self, act on their own ideas and develop areas of interest.

Holistic Development
Kotahitanga

Cognitive, physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and cultural dimensions can be interwoven or independent. Children’s desire to learn is fostered through diverse opportunities where they can construct their own methods for enquiring into surroundings, through hands on learning and child led play. Our educators value all children’s cultures within their settings and the impact these have on the ECE setting.

Family & Communities
Whānau Tangata

Kaiako, parents, whānau and child’s wellbeing are all interdependent of each other. Children’s learning and development is best fostered when strong connections are made between their home environment, community and their ECE setting. Through collaborative partnership, Kaiako and whānau work together to develop strategies to include the strengths and knowledge the child has already acquired, families’ diverse cultures and extend the child’s skills and interests and foster learning.

Relationships
Ngā Hononga

Each day marks the start of a new journey with predictable, unhurried and regular routines that children participate in. Responsive and reciprocal relationships between people, places and things pave the way for children to carve out their own ideas and refine knowledge they have attained. Kaiako develop understanding of the child’s cultural background and in turn mirror this through resources and opportunities that engage the child’s holistic development. Achievements, ventures and aspirations are planned for and celebrated by Kaiako, whānau and children alike.
